Which of the following statements is/are correct? 1. A Bill pending in the Lok Sabha lapses on its prorogation. 2. A Bill pending in the Rajya Sabha, which has not been passed by the Lok Sabha, shall not lapse on dissolution of the Lok Sabha. Select the correct answer using the code given below.

Why the answer is (b)
• Prorogation ends a session but does not affect pending bills; only dissolution of the Lok Sabha causes bills to lapse (Article 107) — so statement 1 is wrong.
• Statement 2 is correct: Article 107(4) provides that a bill pending in the Rajya Sabha which has not been passed by the Lok Sabha does not lapse on dissolution of the Lok Sabha, since the Rajya Sabha is a permanent House.
• Bills passed by both Houses but awaiting assent, and bills referred to a joint sitting, also survive dissolution.
• Hence 2 only, option (b).
