UPSC Prelims 2016 GS Paper I · Q32 of 100 Economy easy

'Mission Indradhanush' launched by the Government of India pertains to

  1. (a) immunization of children and pregnant women ✓ UPSC's answer
  2. (b) construction of smart cities across the country
  3. (c) India's own search for the Earth-like planets in outer space
  4. (d) New Educational Policy

Why the answer is (a)

• Mission Indradhanush (December 2014) of the Health Ministry aims to fully immunise all children under two and pregnant women against vaccine-preventable diseases, targeting districts with low coverage — option (a).

• Its seven colours stood for the seven original vaccines (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, TB, measles, hepatitis B); Intensified Mission Indradhanush followed in 2017.

• (A separate 'Indradhanush' plan of 2015 concerned PSU bank reforms, but the immunisation mission is the answer.)

• Hence option (a).

Why the other options are wrong

(b) construction of smart cities across the country
Smart cities are under a separate mission.
(c) India's own search for the Earth-like planets in outer space
It is not a space programme.
(d) New Educational Policy
It is not an education policy.
