UPSC Prelims 2016 GS Paper I · Q75 of 100 Economy easy

'Global Financial Stability Report' is prepared by the

  1. (a) European Central Bank
  2. (b) International Monetary Fund ✓ UPSC's answer
  3. (c) International Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  4. (d) Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development

Why the answer is (b)

• The Global Financial Stability Report is published twice a year by the International Monetary Fund, assessing risks to the global financial system and capital markets — option (b).

• The IMF also publishes the World Economic Outlook and Fiscal Monitor; the World Bank/IBRD (c) publishes Global Economic Prospects; the OECD (d) its Economic Outlook; the ECB (a) its Financial Stability Review for the euro area.

• Hence option (b).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) European Central Bank
The ECB publishes a Financial Stability Review, not this report.
(c) International Bank for Reconstruction and Development
IBRD publishes Global Economic Prospects.
(d) Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development
OECD publishes its Economic Outlook.
