A person walks 100 m Westward, then turns left and walks 100 m. He then takes 225° turn clockwise. In which direction is he walking now?

Why the answer is (d)

• The person starts by walking 100 m Westward, so his initial direction of travel is West.

• He turns left (90° counter-clockwise) from West, which changes his direction to South.

• He then walks 100 m South, maintaining the Southward direction.

• He takes a 225° turn clockwise from his current direction (South).

• A 225° clockwise turn from South is equivalent to a 135° counter-clockwise turn (360° - 225° = 135°).

• Turning 135° counter-clockwise from South leads to the North-East direction (90° to East + 45° towards North).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) South-West
South-West would result from a 135° clockwise turn from South, not 225°.
(b) South-East
South-East would result from a 45° clockwise turn from South, not 225°.
(c) North-West
North-West would result from a 225° counter-clockwise turn from South, not clockwise.
