UPSC Prelims 2014 CSAT Paper II · Q76 of 65 Mental Ability easy

If the 3rd day of a month is Monday, which one of the following will be the fifth day from 21st of this month ?

  1. (a) Monday
  2. (b) Tuesday
  3. (c) Wednesday ✓ UPSC's answer
  4. (d) Friday

Why the answer is (c)

• The 3rd is Monday, so the 10th, 17th and 24th are also Monday.

• From the 17th Monday, the 21st is 4 days later, so the 21st is Friday.

• Counting the fifth day from the 21st as the fifth day after it: 22nd Saturday, 23rd Sunday, 24th Monday, 25th Tuesday, 26th Wednesday.

• Therefore the required day is Wednesday, which is option (c).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) Monday
Monday is the 24th, the third day after the 21st, not the fifth day after the 21st.
(b) Tuesday
Tuesday is the 25th, the fourth day after the 21st, not the fifth day after the 21st.
(d) Friday
Friday is the 21st itself or the 28th, not the fifth day after the 21st.
