UPSC Prelims 2014 GS Paper I · Q4 of 100 Economy hard

Consider the following pairs : Programme/Project : Ministry 1. Drought-Prone Area Programme : Ministry of Agriculture 2. Desert Development Programme : Ministry of Environment and Forests 3. National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed Areas : Ministry of Rural Development Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?

  1. (a) 1 and 2 only
  2. (b) 3 only
  3. (c) 1, 2 and 3
  4. (d) None ✓ UPSC's answer

Why the answer is (d)

• In 2014 the Drought-Prone Area Programme and Desert Development Programme were both under the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development (merged into the Integrated Watershed Management Programme), not Agriculture or Environment.

• The National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed Areas was under the Ministry of Agriculture, not Rural Development.

• All three pairs are thus mismatched.

• Hence none, option (d).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1 and 2 only
DPAP and DDP were under Rural Development, not Agriculture/Environment.
(b) 3 only
NWDPRA was under Agriculture, not Rural Development.
(c) 1, 2 and 3
None of the pairs is correctly matched.
