  1. (a) 1 and 2
  2. (b) 2 and 3
  3. (c) 3 and 4 ✓ UPSC's answer
  4. (d) 2 and 4

Why the answer is (c)

• The Mahadeo Hills, part of the Satpura range around Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh, are in Central India (pair 3 correct); the Mikir Hills (Karbi Anglong) are in Assam, North-East India (pair 4 correct).

• The Cardamom Hills are in the southern Western Ghats of Kerala–Tamil Nadu, not the Coromandel Coast (pair 1 wrong); the Kaimur Hills are an extension of the Vindhyas in Bihar–UP–MP, not the Konkan (pair 2 wrong).

• Hence 3 and 4, option (c).

Cardamom Hills are in the Western Ghats; Kaimur in the Vindhyas.
(b) 2 and 3
Kaimur Hills are not on the Konkan Coast.
