UPSC Prelims 2014 GS Paper I · Q90 of 100 History medium

Consider the following statements : 1. 'Bijak' is a composition of the teachings of Saint Dadu Dayal. 2. The Philosophy of Pushti Marg was propounded by Madhvacharya. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

  1. (a) 1 only
  2. (b) 2 only
  3. (c) Both 1 and 2
  4. (d) Neither 1 nor 2 ✓ UPSC's answer

Why the answer is (d)

• Statement 1 is wrong: the 'Bijak' is the collection of Kabir's verses compiled by the Kabirpanth; Dadu Dayal's teachings are in the 'Dadu Bani'.

• Statement 2 is wrong: Pushti Marg (the path of grace, devotion to Krishna) was founded by Vallabhacharya in the 16th century; Madhvacharya propounded Dvaita Vedanta.

• Hence neither 1 nor 2, option (d).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1 only
Statement 1 is wrong: Bijak is Kabir's.
(b) 2 only
Statement 2 is wrong: Pushti Marg is Vallabhacharya's.
(c) Both 1 and 2
Both statements are wrong.
