Consider the following statements : 1. Animal Welfare Board of India is established under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. 2. National Tiger Conservation Authority is a statutory body. 3. National Ganga River Basin Authority is chaired by the Prime Minister. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

  1. (a) 1 only

Why the answer is (b)

• Statement 2 is correct: the NTCA became a statutory body under the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2006 (Section 38L).

• Statement 3 is correct: the National Ganga River Basin Authority (2009) was chaired by the Prime Minister (later replaced by the National Ganga Council, also PM-chaired).

• Statement 1 is wrong: the Animal Welfare Board of India (1962) was established under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

• Hence 2 and 3 only, option (b).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1 only
Statement 1 is wrong: AWBI is under the PCA Act, 1960.
(c) 2 only
Statement 3 on NGRBA is also correct.
(d) 1, 2 and 3
Statement 1 is wrong.
