  1. (a) 1 only
  2. (b) 2 and 3 only
  3. (c) 1 and 3 only ✓ UPSC's answer
  4. (d) 1, 2 and 3

Why the answer is (c)

• The Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (2008), administered by the World Bank, is a global partnership of governments, businesses, civil society and indigenous peoples' organisations (statement 1).

• Through its Readiness Fund and Carbon Fund it gives developing countries financial and technical assistance to prepare for and implement REDD+ (statement 3).

• Statement 2 is wrong: it does not fund universities or scientists for forestry research.

• Hence 1 and 3 only, option (c).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1 only
Statement 3 on REDD+ assistance is also correct.
(b) 2 and 3 only
Statement 2 is wrong: it does not fund research institutions.
(d) 1, 2 and 3
Statement 2 is wrong.
