UPSC Prelims 2023 CSAT Paper II · Q37 of 77 Logical Reasoning easy

If 'ZERO' is written as 'CHUR', then how is 'PLAYER' written ?

  1. (a) SOCAGT
  2. (b) SODBGT
  3. (c) SODBHT
  4. (d) SODBHU ✓ UPSC's answer

Why the answer is (d)

• In 'ZERO', each letter is shifted forward by 3 places in the alphabet: Z to C, E to H, R to U, O to R.

• Apply the same +3 shift to P, L, A, Y, E, R in 'PLAYER'.

• P+3=S, L+3=O, A+3=D, Y+3=B, E+3=H, R+3=U.

• Therefore 'PLAYER' is written as SODBHU, which is option (d).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) SOCAGT
SOCAGT is wrong because it shifts A, Y, E, and R by 2 places to C, A, G, and T instead of shifting them by 3 places to D, B, H, and U.
(b) SODBGT
SODBGT is wrong because it shifts E to G and R to T instead of shifting E to H and R to U.
(c) SODBHT
SODBHT is wrong because it shifts R to T instead of shifting R by 3 places to U.
