Consider the following information : Waterfall | Region | River 1. Dhuandhar | Malwa | Narmada 2. Hundru | Chota Nagpur | Subarnarekha 3. Gerseoppa | Western Ghats | Netravati In how many of the above rows is the given information correctly matched ?
- (a) Only one ✓ UPSC's answer
- (b) Only two
- (c) All three
- (d) None
Why the answer is (a)
• Row 2 is correct: Hundru Falls, on the Subarnarekha river near Ranchi, lies on the Chota Nagpur plateau of Jharkhand.
• Row 1 is wrong on the region: Dhuandhar Falls is on the Narmada at Bhedaghat near Jabalpur, which is in the Mahakoshal region of Madhya Pradesh, not Malwa (the plateau around Indore–Ujjain).
• Row 3 is wrong on the river: Gerseoppa (Jog) Falls in the Western Ghats of Karnataka is on the Sharavati river, not the Netravati.
• Since a row counts only when all cells are right, only one row is correctly matched.
• Hence option (a).
Why the other options are wrong
- (b) Only two
- Rows 1 (region) and 3 (river) both contain errors, leaving one correct row.
- (c) All three
- Only the Hundru row is fully correct.
- (d) None
- The Hundru row is correctly matched, so the count is not zero.
