UPSC Prelims 2017 GS Paper I · Q63 of 100 Economy medium

Consider the following in respect of 'National Career Service' : 1. National Career Service is an initiative of the Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India. 2. National Career Service has been launched in a Mission Mode to improve the employment opportunities to uneducated youth of the country. Which of the above statements is/are correct ?

  1. (a) 1 only
  2. (b) 2 only
  3. (c) Both 1 and 2
  4. (d) Neither 1 nor 2 ✓ UPSC's answer

Why the answer is (d)

• The National Career Service (2015) is a Mission Mode project of the Ministry of Labour and Employment — not DoPT — that runs an online portal linking job-seekers, employers, career counsellors and training providers, transforming the old employment exchanges.

• Statement 1 is therefore wrong, and statement 2 is wrong because it serves all job-seekers, not specifically the uneducated.

• Hence neither 1 nor 2, option (d).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1 only
Statement 1 is wrong: it is a Labour Ministry initiative.
(b) 2 only
Statement 2 is wrong: it targets all job-seekers.
(c) Both 1 and 2
Both statements are wrong.
