With reference to Indian freedom struggle, consider the following events : 1. Mutiny in Royal Indian Navy 2. Quit India Movement launched 3. Second Round Table Conference What is the correct chronological sequence of the above events ?

  1. (a) 1-2-3
  2. (b) 2-1-3
  3. (c) 3-2-1 ✓ UPSC's answer
  4. (d) 3-1-2

Why the answer is (c)

• The Second Round Table Conference was held in London in September–December 1931, with Gandhi as Congress representative (event 3).

• The Quit India Movement was launched on 8 August 1942 (event 2).

• The Royal Indian Navy mutiny broke out in Bombay in February 1946 (event 1).

• Hence 3 – 2 – 1, option (c).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) 1-2-3
The RIN mutiny (1946) was the last, not the first.
(b) 2-1-3
The Round Table Conference (1931) came first.
(d) 3-1-2
Quit India (1942) preceded the RIN mutiny (1946).
