  1. (a) Only one pair
  2. (b) Only two pairs ✓ UPSC's answer
  3. (c) Only three pairs
  4. (d) All four pairs

Why the answer is (b)

• Pair 1 is correct: Anatolia (Asia Minor) is the Asian part of Turkey.

• Pair 2 is correct: Amhara is a region of Ethiopia drawn into the Tigray war and later its own insurgency.

• Pair 3 is wrong: Cabo Delgado is the northern province of Mozambique hit by an Islamist insurgency, not part of Spain.

• Pair 4 is wrong: Catalonia, with its independence movement, is in Spain, not Italy.

• Hence two pairs, option (b).

Why the other options are wrong

(a) Only one pair
Both Anatolia and Amhara pairs are correct.
(c) Only three pairs
Cabo Delgado is in Mozambique and Catalonia in Spain; only two pairs are right.
(d) All four pairs
