Why the answer is (d)
• Read FRANCE = 654321 letter by letter: F = 6, R = 5, A = 4, N = 3, C = 2, E = 1.
• Read GERMANY = 9158437 letter by letter: G = 9, E = 1, R = 5, M = 8, A = 4, N = 3, Y = 7. The shared letters E, R, A, N get the same digits in both words, so each letter has a fixed code.
• YEMEN = Y, E, M, E, N = 7, 1, 8, 1, 3, i.e. 71813 — option (d).
Why the other options are wrong
- (a) 54321
- 54321 would need Y = 5 and M = 3, but GERMANY gives Y = 7 and M = 8.
- (b) 81913
- 81913 starts with 8, but Y = 7; its middle digit 9 is G's code, whereas M = 8.
- (c) 71913
- 71913 uses 9 for M, but 9 is G's code; M = 8, which gives 71813.
