UPSC Prelims 2025 GS Paper I · Q55 of 99 Current Events hard

Consider the following statements regarding AI Action Summit held in Grand Palais, Paris in February 2025 : I. Co-chaired with India, the event builds on the advances made at the Bletchley Park Summit held in 2023 and the Seoul Summit held in 2024. II. Along with other countries, US and UK also signed the declaration on inclusive and sustainable AI. Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

  1. (a) I only ✓ UPSC's answer
  2. (b) II only
  3. (c) Both I and II
  4. (d) Neither I nor II

Why the answer is (a)

• The AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais, Paris (10–11 February 2025) was co-chaired by France and India, and followed the UK's Bletchley Park AI Safety Summit (November 2023) and the AI Seoul Summit (May 2024) — statement I is correct.

• Statement II is wrong: the United States and the United Kingdom declined to sign the Paris 'Statement on Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence', citing concerns about governance language and national security; about 60 other countries, including India, China and the EU, did sign.

• India used the co-chairmanship to press for AI access for the Global South and went on to host the next summit, the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026.

• Hence I only, option (a).

Why the other options are wrong

(b) II only
Statement I is correct and statement II is wrong: the US and UK did not sign.
(c) Both I and II
Statement II is wrong, so both cannot be correct.
(d) Neither I nor II
Statement I is correct: India co-chaired the Paris summit.
