  2. (b) 1 and 3 only ✓ UPSC's answer
  3. (c) 2 and 3 only
  4. (d) 1, 2 and 3

Why the answer is (b)

• Pair 1 is correct: Raja Radhakanta Deb was the first president of the British Indian Association (Calcutta, 1851).

• Pair 3 is correct: Surendranath Banerjee, with Anandamohan Bose, founded the Indian Association in 1876.

• Pair 2 is wrong: Gazulu Lakshminarasu Chetty founded the Madras Native Association (1852); the Madras Mahajana Sabha (1884) was founded by M. Viraraghavachariar, G. Subramania Iyer and P. Anandacharlu.
